H&M scarf/Vince Camuto coat/Forever21 jeans/Forever21 wishbone necklace
This outfit in this post is what most often serves as my winter uniform – boots, leggings, oversized coat, oversized scarf.
When you live somewhere where it is freezing – the wind chill is -20 degrees right now as I type this – for a not-insignificant part of the year and don’t own a car, outerwear options are pretty much limited to puffy down coats and snow boots worn while waiting on unshoveled train platforms under tiny heaters. Style stops being an option after December and Ugly Layer Season lasts until about May.
I try to wear as many of my jackets, coats, ankle boots, and ripped jeans as possible before January hits – like this Vince Camuto wool number I picked up at the beginning of the season to replace my ragged and well-loved Forever21 peacoat/duster. It was a lightweight wool blend but I somehow wore that thing through subzero temps for quite a few seasons, surviving on a combination of heavy scarves and denial. I happen to love this version more, with the subtle moto details of the quilted sleeves and the tonal hardware that elevates it above basic winter blacks. It’s also much warmer, so there’s that too.
I’d been eyeing these boots for a while since they showed up in stores at beginning of the season and I managed to snag the only pair left at H&M on sale for $20. They’re the exact burgundy color I’ve been looking for and are stompy enough to go most everything I own as well as hold up to the slush and snow. I’ve worn them multiple times in a row and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
Well, at least until Monday.
