A year ago, I would have never worn this. Coveralls? Are you kidding me? Hell no.
But now I worship jumpsuits and will gladly go traipsing around in almost any incarnation. I’m especially fond of vampy ones rendered in black with deep v-necks and suit detailing, or the workwear-inspired kind like this jumpsuit from H&M’s denim reborn collection. It took me the longest to warm up to the casual versions, but has definitely happened: they’re so simple but so stylish and most of all I can move in them. I love clothing that makes me feel like it expresses thought and creativity, and if I can run after the train, it’s even better. Jumpsuits worn casually exude the couldn’t-care-less look I envy in my everyday dressing. They’re practically the pinnacle.
This one doesn’t fit the greatest off the rack, but I love it enough to get it tailored, which I highly recommended if you’re tiny like me or even if you have a torso on the shorter side. The waistbands on jumpsuits tend to hit me too low and cause them to puddle around my hips, which isn’t really the look I’m going for, but it’s actually not too difficult to take them in and make them fit property.
I wanted to keep this look focused on the jumpsuit, so there’s minimal layering and accessorizing here, but I can’t wait to wear it other ways as the temperature drops. Despite being a statement all their own, jumpsuits are surprising versatile, and not to mention warm. Even if you think you aren’t a jumpsuit person, as someone who lives in sundresses 50% of year, I assure you that you just might be. You’ll be able to exchange knowing glances with other fashion-forward ladies which is a fantastic feeling. There’s something inherently powerful about wearing something because you like it, regardless of trends. Having other people appreciate it is just icing on the cake.
