This outfit feels solid. It features some entry-level pattern mixing, cozy texture, more color than I usually wear – whether or not this is a good thing is debatable (to me at least) – and my favorite Report Signature lug-soled oxfords which I want to wear as long as physically possible this winter.
I love these shoes. I picked them up unexpectedly at the beginning of last month. They’re slightly shiny without being patent and therefore prone to scuffing, with a lug sole that is durable and comfortable without feeling too heavy. The buckles are a nice extra touch, too – it sets them apart from the typical lace-up style. I’d been searching for a pair of lace-ups for a while, but hadn’t managed to bring myself spring for any of the pairs I’d been considering. I ordered these in order to make use of a $10 coupon I had that was about to expire and I don’t regret it in the least. They toughen up all my outfits without overpowering them and they’re a more unexpected choice than booties or sneakers and they’re just made to pair with OTK socks. I can’t wear them enough.
I also picked up this khaki jacket at the beginning of the season, another H&M purchase. I adore cargo jackets. It’s been unseasonably warm lately which has granted me a few extra weeks of wear, and while the khaki is a brighter tone than I expected, I like the color paired with my purple hair and black denim or with skirts and dresses and tights. It is nice to have an outerwear option that isn’t black and grey – if you’re looking to expand on your choices in jackets, khaki is a good choice, especially in such a classic cut like a parka. It doesn’t feel so far out of my comfort zone.
But despite really loving the way this outfit is styled, I’ve been feeling rather lost stylistically. I think that this happens to the best of us periodically – change and growth can be good. While I can usually pinpoint why I’m not loving what I’m wearing, I’m unsure this time around. Aesthetically speaking, nothing is holding my attention for very long. Most of what I’m wearing seems lackluster or like something is missing. It’s time for another inspiration detox and time to continue sorting out my closet.
